Workgroups Advance Economic Development Priorities
Updated: Sep 3
In the fall of 2025, Poweshiek Development launched countywide work groups using collective impact to bring people together around economic development. During the first year, 38 representatives from 31 businesses and organizations participated across nine economic development sectors.
The initiative grew from Poweshiek Development’s countywide strategic plan, which called for stronger collaboration and accountability. Six workgroups focused on entrepreneurship and small businesses; large business, manufacturing, and industry; tourism; site development; workforce; and housing. Each group discussed concerns relevant to their sectors and identified up to three countywide priorities.
The workgroups spent much of the year building relationships, sharing local knowledge, and understanding common challenges. They also completed practical work such as creating a standard process for identifying available properties, zoning, and infrastructure (Site Development) and developing a survey to understand business owner needs (Entrepreneurship and Small Business).
Poweshiek Development thanks all co-chairs and workgroup members who contributed their time, expertise, and energy to advancing economic development priorities. If you are interested in joining a future workgroup, please email director@poweshiekdevelopment.com.
