With the assistance of Poweshiek Development, Sips Coffee Company in Grinnell secured a Rural Innovation Grant from the Iowa Economic Development Authority. The award provides $5,000 for the purchase of a weigh-fill machine and pallet stacker—key equipment that will allow the local roaster to expand production capacity and meet growing demand.
Founded by Jason Carberry, who built his first roaster out of household appliances, Sips Coffee has become a favorite with its small-batch roasting and presence at community coffee shops and retailers around the county. In Poweshiek County, you can find Sips Coffee in Brooklyn at Center Ground and in Grinnell at Comeback Cafe and McNally’s Foods. It is also available in other coffee shops in surrounding counties.
“This grant allows us to keep growing efficiently while staying true to our roots,” says Jason.
By connecting rural businesses to competitive state resources, Poweshiek Development is helping local companies scale and foster economic growth to benefit businesses and residents across Poweshiek County.
