Poweshiek County is coming together to shape its future. Poweshiek Development has launched a new working group initiative that brings together community leaders, business owners, and local experts together to tackle key opportunities for growth.
The initiative responds directly to the county-wide strategic plan, which called for increased collaboration and accountability. Over the past year, research and community conversations, highlighted the importance of targeted, actionable efforts to strengthen our economy and communities. Each working group will identify up to three actionable priorities within the next 12 months, ensuring that progress is both focused and measurable.
Six dedicated working groups will focus on the areas that matter most for our county’s future:
Entrepreneur/Small Business: Connecting and supporting entrepreneurs and small businesses with resources.
Large Business, Manufacturing and Industry: Driving recruitment, retention, and growth support for major employers.
Tourism: Promoting attractions and events across communities to strengthen the local visitor economy.
Site Development: Identifying available sites and infrastructure to be development ready.
Workforce: Building “grow your own” talent pipeline through school partnerships and data-driven solutions.
Housing: Assessing needs and supporting county-wide solutions to ensure housing for all.
In the months ahead, each group will begin shaping their actionable priorities with progress updates shared publicly along the way. Community members and businesses are encouraged to get involved. If you’d like to participate or learn more, email director@poweshiekdevelopment.com.
Together, we can build a stronger Poweshiek County, one that supports thriving businesses, a skilled workforce, and vibrant communities for generations to come.
