  • 1 min read

On January 29, community members in Malcom welcomed Jim Thompson, a Downtown Economic Development Specialist, and Sacha Wise, the Empower Rural Iowa Director, from the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) for a community visit. Poweshiek Development supported t

he coordination of this visit to introduce IEDA to Malcom and provide them with an idea of the community through constituents’ eyes. Members discussed their favorite things about living in Malcom, things they want people to know about their town, and factors such as their proximity to the interstate and quality of life.

The IEDA visit also included a tour of Malcom where Sacha and Jim were able to see the food pantry, auditorium, fire station, park, BASF, Heartland Cooperative, and Dayton Meat Products. At Dayton, they were able to see the meatmaking process and the locker.

Thank you so much to Sacha Wise, Jim Thompson, and IEDA for spending the day in Malcom. We at Poweshiek Development look forward to future partnerships that strengthen our communities.

Those in attendance included:

- Dawn Hamilton (BASF, the Mayor of Malcom, and the Director of the Malcom Food Pantry)

- Alisha Tuttle (Grinnell Mutual, Malcom Treasurer, and Community Development)

- Stephanie Ferris (Co-Director of Food Pantry and Community Development)

- Scott Strong (Malcom City Superintendent)

- Bill Dayton (Dayton Meat Products, Former City Council Member, and Poweshiek Lodge Member)
