Poweshiek Economic Development Collaborative and the City of Grinnell working in coordination with Grinnell Area Chamber of Commerce are launching a new Energy Efficiency Pilot Program for buildings located within Grinnell’s Central Business District.

In partnership with Franklin Energy and Alliant Energy, the pilot program is designed to help downtown building owners and tenants learn more about and take advantage of opportunities to improve energy efficiency, reduce operating costs, and explore available utility rebate and incentive programs.

An informational meeting for interested building owners and tenants will be held:

Wednesday, May 27 at 9 a.m.

Grinnell Area Chamber of Commerce

833 4th Avenue

Grinnell, Iowa

The meeting will provide an overview of the program, including the audit process, available resources post-audit, how to sign up, and next steps for participation. “This pilot is intended to help downtown property owners and businesses better understand opportunities that may exist within their buildings,” said Melissa Strovers, Executive Director of Poweshiek Economic Development Collaborative. “Downtown buildings are an important part of Grinnell’s character, business environment, and long-term viability. This partnership is about connecting local building owners with resources that may help support continued investment and sustainability in the downtown district.”

The program includes energy audit opportunities and guidance through available utility rebate programs. Potential improvements identified through the process may include lighting, HVAC systems, insulation, and other building efficiencies. Participation and project scope will vary by property and business needs, and the process may take several months from assessment through project completion. Although not required, RSVP’s for the informational meeting are encouraged in advance.
