With the assistance of Poweshiek Development, Dayton Meat Products in Malcom secured a Rural Innovation Grant administered by the Iowa Center for Rural Revitalization. The award provides up to $5,000 in specialized research through the National Center for Economic Gardening, connecting the family-owned company to national experts in marketing, customer insights, and business growth strategies.
For Dayton Meat Products—a trusted local business since 1959 producing smoked meats, jerky, and specialty products—the grant is a chance to strengthen operations and expand market reach in ways that benefit all of Poweshiek County. “This opportunity gives us access to expertise that will help our business grow strategically while continuing to serve our community and local producers,” says owner Bill Dayton.
By linking rural businesses to competitive grants and statewide resources, Poweshiek Development is building the capacity of our county economy—helping companies expand, create jobs, and drive lasting prosperity.
